Captain Rick Moore
Full-time captain on his Jeanneau. Marine-video pioneer and drone pilot. Builds SSL around honest systems tests and the daily reality of living off-grid, not highlight reels.
Maddalena (Maddy)

Life aboard
Our story
Rick left the stress of life on land behind, bought Sophisticated Lady, our 51-foot monohull, and started a new chapter in the Caribbean. What began as charter work turned into filming, and filming grew into Sailing Sophisticated Lady, the longest-running sailing channel on YouTube.
In 2019 Rick met Maddy on Isla Mujeres, Mexico. She’s an Italian chef who left a successful restaurant career for an adventure at sea. It was meant to be a short trip together. It became much more.
Then 2020 happened. The lockdowns kept us on San Andrés for a whole year, and it turned out to be a gift. We married in February 2021, and in November our son Riccardo (Ricci) was born right there on San Andrés.
Today the three of us live aboard full time, sailing our home waters of the Caribbean and South & Central America. We share the off-grid life as it really is: honest gear tests, real fixes, Maddy’s cooking, and Ricci growing up with the ocean as his playground.
