CopperCoat
What keeps our hull clean. CopperCoat is a copper-filled epoxy antifouling from the UK, made to protect a hull for many seasons instead of one.
CopperCoat is one of our partners. This page is our own short summary of coppercoat.com.
Who they are
Made in Dorset
CopperCoat is made by Aquarius Marine Coatings, based in Shillingstone, Dorset, in the UK.
Who it’s built for
Three groups: private boat owners (Leisure), large yachts (Superyacht), and ships and underwater equipment (Commercial).
What they’re saying right now
Their homepage puts the numbers up front: over 75,000 Leisure applications worldwide, and up to 30 years of protection for commercial users.
The message throughout: fewer haul-outs and less repainting than with traditional antifouls.

Their site also has independent test reports and a worldwide distributor network.
On Sophisticated Lady
CopperCoat is the antifouling on our hull. We filmed the whole job, including the step that almost got missed.
What we run
- On our hull: CopperCoat antifouling
- How it works: it’s epoxy filled with copper. Growth isn’t stopped completely, but it can’t get a firm grip, so it wipes off
- The step people forget: CopperCoat has to be sanded to activate it before the boat goes back in the water. SSL763 shows how close we came to skipping it
Watch the whole job
SSL755 follows the application from start to finish: prep, mixing, technique, the coats and the finished hull.
